Which Autism Therapy is Right for My Family?

There are a LOT of autism treatments out there and chances are, if you have gone through the diagnosis phase, you will be just as confused as the rest of us about which one to choose.

Over the years I have tried many various therapies and protocols. I learned that if I tried to do too many things at one time I couldn’t do anyone of them very well and ended up feeling pretty incompetent. Yet, there was a sea of options to sort through and it was a difficult maze to navigate. I discovered RDI (a developmentally based parent driven approach focusing on relationships) about 11 years ago. Even before I fully understood or mindfully used it – I just knew that it was the missing piece for our family.

I’ve been on this path for over 18 years now and sharing some of the most beneficial lessons that I learned along the way is my way of “paying it forward”. You see, not only am I a certified RDI consultant (the first In Canada) but I am also first and foremost a parent. And I am passionate about parenting special kids. I know firsthand how it feels to have sleepless nights worrying about my kids future, fuming over insensitive comments from educators or neighbors, and experiencing the pain and grief that rises to the surface when watching typical kids effortlessly play or learn.

Below is a excerpt from an interview between myself and one of my clients, Carol. Here, she shares her journey with autism and how she came to find RDI.
