Lisa PalastiDirector of RDI® in Canada, and the consultant families here have worked with for two decades.

Why this webinar

When a child is struggling, the behaviour is usually what gets addressed first — the meltdown, the refusal, the rigidity around a routine. It is the visible part, so it becomes the target.

But behaviour is the surface. Underneath it sits a set of capacities that are still developing: reading a situation, holding two ideas at once, tolerating that a plan has changed, borrowing a parent’s calm until your own arrives. Build those, and a great deal of the behaviour resolves on its own.

This session is about how that development actually happens — not in a therapy room, but in the ordinary moments you already share with your child every day.

“Flexible thinking is built moment by moment — in everyday experiences with the people who love them most.” Lisa Palasti

What we’ll cover

Three ideas that change what you do on a Tuesday afternoon

Dynamic intelligence & flexible thinking

The difference between a child who has learned the right answer and a child who can work out what to do when the situation shifts. Why static skills don’t transfer, and what growing dynamic thinking looks like week to week.

Relationship-based intervention

How guided participation works: slowing the pace, sharing the problem rather than solving it, and using productive uncertainty — small, manageable challenges — so your child gets practice thinking rather than practice complying.

Collaborative problem-solving with families

What this looks like in a real household with limited time and other children in it. Where to start, how to tell it’s working, and how RDI® consultants support families through it.

Who it’s for

Parents and professionals are both welcome

Parents and caregivers

  • Your child is autistic or has a developmental difference
  • Progress on skills hasn’t translated into flexibility at home
  • You want something you can practise, not another programme to administer
  • You’ve heard of RDI® and want to understand it before committing

Clinicians and educators

  • SLPs, OTs, psychologists, behaviour consultants, teachers
  • You’re looking for a developmental frame alongside your current practice
  • You’re considering the RDI® certification programme
  • You want to see how a consultant coaches parents, not children

Your guide

Lisa Palasti

Lisa is the Director of Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®) in Canada and the founder of Mindful Guide Consulting. She works directly with families and trains the consultants who go on to do the same.

Her practice sits with parents rather than around them — the premise being that the person best placed to guide a child’s development is the one already in the room for the thousand small moments a week where it happens.

  • Role Director of RDI® in Canada
  • Trains Certified RDI® consultants across Canada and beyond
  • Works with Families of autistic children and children with developmental differences

From families Lisa has worked with

“We truly feel that under the guidance of our consultant, Lisa Palasti, we have created for Jack and our family a true quality of life. Jack is doing very well — it’s amazing to see how able he is to self-regulate compared to where he was when we started RDI.”
Andrea and MarcToronto, Ontario
“This morning my jaw dropped when saying goodbye to my daughter. She stopped eating her breakfast, looked up at me — I mean truly looked at me — and said ‘I love you too!’ This was a first.”
G.W.Kitchener, Ontario
“After doing RDI for a few years, we seemed to just ‘get it’ — more importantly, to ‘get’ Liam, and to incorporate all that we learned naturally into our everyday lives. I suppose that’s the beauty of RDI.”
F.I. and E.R.Elora, Ontario

Is it really free?

Is it in person or online?

Online, on Zoom. You’ll get the meeting link as soon as you register, plus two or three reminders in the days before the session.
